Bosnian Party

Wow! Did we have a great time!!! Saturday I had my Bosnian party. Everybody had to dress in something blue or yellow (the same colours as the Bosnian flag). I managed to find real cevapi at a local butchery (can you believe it!!!) and our "burek" tasted very good although it looked a bit different to the real thing. We also had "sok" (juice), "juha" (soup), "salata" (salad) and "hljeb" (bread). For desert we had "Halva" and "keks" (biscuits) served with strong coffee and fruit teas.

Regarding the activities, I started with a videoclip/powerpoint about Bosnia and then talked about what I will be doing in BiH. After that we had some Q&A followed by a game. Each person received a "party box" with goodies and inside was a small paper jet with a needle that they had to use to pop a baloon on a big Bosnian map. Inside the baloons were different pictures. If they found a music note, they had to sing a Bosnian song (dressed in hat and glasses!); if they found a "?", they had to answer a question about BiH; if they found a "!", we read a fact about Bosnia; if they found a ":-)", they had to mime a word.
Other pictures were a magnifying glass in which they either had to look up the meaning of a Bosnian word or locate a Bosnian town on the map; also a book in which they had to read something in Bosnian. We ended the evening by watching the movie "Welcome to Sarajevo".

I am so greatful that all went well and that everybody really enjoyed the party. Some people even came afterwards to find out about sponsorships - praise God! I am trusting Him to provide in all my needs! Please continue to keep me in prayer especially regarding finances and also for visa applications. As my one friend said: "God gives provision for the vision" and all I need to do is tust Him. It's less than 2 months to go and it's easy to find yourself worrying...but as Joshua 1:9 says: "This is my command - be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." God will provide and all the glory will go to Him!

Quick update...

Hi everyone!

Wow, the time really goes by quickly! Just thought to put an update on how things are going with my Bosnia plans. As mentioned in my previous blog, I had an opportunity to speak at a big home-cell gathering (home-cells of this area) a few weeks back. Praise God, it really went well! Two of the church’s pastors were there and afterwards, many people came to talk to me about Bosnia. One of the pastors asked that I put together a proposal which he would forward to the mission’s department of our church and maybe they’ll be willing to sponsor me. I’ve emailed the pastor and waiting for feedback from the church. This is really wonderful, since our church is very big and I wasn’t sure how to go about asking them for support.

In the mean time I’ve been very busy preparing for this coming Saturday’s “Bosnian party”. I’m so excited about that! My cousin Sonja will be visiting from Port Elizabeth and I’m planning some great activities and off course - yummy Bosnian food (well, as close as I can get with what we have in South Africa!). I’ll also attempt to make “burek” (Bosnian meat pie). He,he... will see how that comes out:-)
